The Amazing Rolo's old blog (the new one is at theamazingrolo.net)
New things
You'll notice lots of design changes around this blog (hit "refresh" a few times if you don't). My goal is to consolidate my websites, which had very little in common with each other and were difficult to navigate. Hopefully this new layout will encourage my blog readers to check out the rest of the site, and vice versa.
Please bear with me while I finish updating the site. I have not yet tested it in Windows, and I know that it takes longer to load. I will fix those problems in the next few days. Please let me know if you find anything that doesn't work, or if you have other comments or suggestions.
In the Dark
My brother recently showed me a
really awesome page full of old appalachian recordings for free download. I took one of the songs and used it as the base sample for a new Rolo song.
The lyrics are inspired by a cool art piece I saw down at the
Royal Scottish Academy.
The Amazing Rolo - In the Dark
Field Recordings
I've made some pretty cool field recordings recently, and I thought I would share the excitement...for starters, this is the sound from my window this afternoon:
Bagpipes in the distanceAnd 10 days ago I borrowed the
binaural microphones from my school and went to a
Hibernian FC soccer game with a friend. Here are some of the results:
The game gets startedJust after a goal is scored (the recording of the goal itself is too distorted, sorry).
You'll notice that the stereo image is only really effective on headphones, particularly for those last two recordings.
You'll also notice a nice little change on this blog...I've discovered a very cool little mp3 embedding system made by
del.icio.us. Now you can just click the blue arrows to play, or right click (ctrl-click) the name of the song to download.
